 Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in our young people. We also know that low-income individuals are at greater risk of injury than the rest of the population. To decrease those numbers, the Foundation offers SAFE KIDS of Central Wyoming, which provides leadership for a diverse coalition of community leaders who distribute valuable safety information and safety equipment throughout the entire community. They host an annual SAFE KIDS Day which draws over 1000 families to participate in safety education activities. Each year, they distribute hundreds of helmets and many car seats at little or no cost. They work with our local fire department to install smoke detectors in low-income households. This year, they have expanded their mission to include motor vehicle safety. They designed a number of programs and provided safe driving manuals to all students in drivers education classes. Regular car seat checks are now offered at no cost each month to promote proper installation and use of car seats — the number-one way of saving young lives.
